NearVid never receives your videos. Trimming, format conversion, GIF creation, and audio extraction all run entirely on-device in your browser, using a locally-loaded FFmpeg build compiled to WebAssembly — no video, file name, or frame data is ever transmitted to our servers or any third party. This is technically enforced by this site’s Content-Security-Policy, which blocks the page from sending data anywhere off-device.
The page that actually does the video processing runs with stricter browser isolation (cross-origin isolation, needed for the multi-threaded video engine) than the rest of the site, and — by design — never loads ads or third-party ad iframes, which are incompatible with that isolation mode. Ads only ever appear before you start (the home page) or after you are done (the download page), never while a video is being processed.
We run no analytics. We show advertising served by Google AdSense to fund free hosting. Ad code, and any advertising cookies or device identifiers it sets, load only if you press "Accept" on the consent banner — if you press "Reject", no ad script ever loads and no ad cookie is ever set. You can change your choice at any time from the cookie settings link in the site footer. Google's own privacy practices for AdSense are described at https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads. (Separately: a single local setting is stored on your device to remember your ad-consent choice — it is not an identifier and is never sent anywhere.) Your choice about ads has no effect on your videos: processing always runs on-device, and no video is ever uploaded, whether you accept or reject ads.
NearVid uses a self-built, GPL-free FFmpeg (LGPL 2.1+, no libx264/libx265) compiled from the ffmpegwasm/ffmpeg.wasm project, for trimming, WebM conversion, GIF creation, and audio extraction. Where your browser supports it, NearVid’s MP4 output option instead uses Mediabunny (MPL-2.0, an open-source media toolkit, source: https://github.com/Vanilagy/mediabunny) together with your browser’s own built-in WebCodecs H.264/AAC encoder — NearVid does not bundle any H.264/AAC encoder itself.
